My Feline Flick Essentials

Feline Flick Essentials
The feline flick is well renowned in the beauty industry as what seems near enough impossible to get perfect. It takes a LOT of practice and probably a few tantrums in the process. I won't even begin to try and attempt to give instructions of how to get it right but I can talk about the products that I find are an essential- Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Eyeliner and L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Gel Intenza. I use two liners for the purpose that Rimmel allows for absolute control and precision whilst L'Oreal provides amazing pigmentation and sustainability.

The Rimmel Glam Eyes is a new addition to my make-up bag and it achieves what I find slightly more difficult with the gel liners; the greatest precision. This has the tiniest, finest nib on the end which enables a sharp and pointed flick. I like to use this as the first step to achieve the initial shape before carefully going back over with the gel to build the depth of colour and smooth out the line.

Gel liners have always been my first preference as I find that the colour is always a lot more pigmented and once dried it doesn't budge, a problem that I often found when I've used other types of liners. I've used MAC Blacktrack Fluidline in the past however I found that it dried up really quickly making it even more difficult to get a smooth and sharp line. L'Oreal's version is near enough exactly the same but the consistency is a lot creamier, making it easy to apply and doesn't seem to dry up half as quickly. It also comes with a small brush too which is delicate and pointy enough to neatly glide along the lash line.
Feline Flick Essentials
In some respect using two products may seem like it means creating the winged look becomes a lengthier process however I find it so much easier to get them precise that I manage to perfect them in a shorter space of time, so in actual fact it's worked out to be a bit of a time saver! These two are a great duo but I also find that using the right tools to apply with is key. Zoeva's 316 Classic Liner Brush is also a great alternative if you don't feel comfortable enough using the brush that comes in the pack with the gel liner. The soft bristles are a lot better quality so they keep their shape for longer and are easier to work with.
Feline Flick Essentials
Gel Liner Tip- Gel Liners can be more fiddly to use than just a straightforward liquid liner however I truly believe the outcome is a lot better so I've found that it's worth investing a little more time working out how to get the best out of it. Three tips I would give are i) Always wipe the brush with a babywipe after use to avoid the gel drying onto it and making it go hard. ii) Always make sure the lid is left on even if you're just popping it down for a few moments. This will ensure that it doesn't dry out. iii) If your gel already has dried out then try mixing it with a few drops of Saline Solution. Follow these simple tips and hopefully your experience with gel liners will be a lot easier!

What do you love to use to create the perfect feline flick?

love Katya x

  3. These look like great drugstore eyeliners! Recently I've been using liquid liners with a felt tip as I feel it allows more precision, but my favoruite liquid liner has to be L'oreal's Super Liner in Black Crystals. I still haven't quite got the hang of a gel liner in the form of a pot, but tthe idea in this post sounds like a great way of getting around that :) x

    1. I do like the pens and they're easy to apply with but I don't find them quite so pigmented as the gels. You should definitely give this way a go :)

  4. I'd love to try the L'Oreal product especially if it beats MAC as MAC is definitely my make-up brand of choice! Thanks for these recommendations <3

  12. These look like fantastic options & I have tried the Rimmel Glam Eyes option before. I really liked it but found it a bit fiddly as the brush is so tiny. One of my all time favourites is L'Oreal Super Liner x

  22. My current favourite liner for flicks is Kat Von d's tattoo liner but it's run out (and expensive to ship over here) so Collection's 24hr liner is what I'm using right now. Rimmel exaggerate is such a classic though isn't it, so many people I know love it :)
