Would You Ever Wear White Foundation?

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you all had a great one and weren't feeling too delicate yesterday. I haven't posted in around a week and a half due to not having the time with all the Christmas festivities going on, but I'm back and this is my first post of 2016!

Looking at the photograph of Illamasqua's  white foundation the thought of putting it on your face is probably a bit daunting, not unless you took part in a Christmas pantomime. However this scary little tube has actually come in very handy. Have you ever bought a foundation only to get home and look at it in a different light and realised that it's far too dark? Or buy a foundation just after you've got back from your summer holiday when you're skins all lovely and tanned but then reach the winter months and suddenly you're starting to look very orange? This Pure White (eeek!) foundation is a real problem solver!
When I first started university 4 years ago I was using MAC Studio Fix Foundation in NW25. It was during the days that I used to really overdo the fake tan to get as dark as I possibly could so this  was a suitable colour for me. For one reason or another I stopped using Studio Fix for a while, but earlier this year I decided to repurchase as I love the coverage. Not really putting too much thought into it I automatically went for the same shade as I always had done... and yep, way too dark! I'm definitely a lot paler than I used to be and I can't quite believe this shade was actually once a match! Not wanting to put it to waste I reached for Illamasqua's Rich Liquid Foundation which was in my uni makeup kit and mixed the tiniest amount into my MAC foundation to achieve a shade that matched up perfectly to my skin tone. In an instant my orange foundation issue was no more! I had managed to create a wearable shade and it's given me use out of NW25 rather than putting it to waste.
When I eventually run out of my Studio Fix I think it's time I went to a MAC counter and get colour matched again but it's always handy to have a white or even just a very pale foundation in your makeup collection for when things start to get a little orange.

Would you ever wear a white foundation?

P.S I've had this post in my drafts for a while, and since writing it The Body Shop have brought out Shade Adjusting Drops which are effectively  the same concept as using a white foundation. I've not yet got round to trying them myself but they sound fab! Will you be trying them?

  1. The White foundation looks and sounds a bit scary at first, although I could definitely see it being a helpful product. I'm curious about the Body Shop drops now though!

    1. I have bought the Body Shop drops and they are good! I tried the pale foundation trick but I find it changes the consistency of the original foundation too much. If the pale foundation is too dewy, I can't mix it in with my matte foundations, it just doesn't sit on my skin in the same way. I find the drops don't change it all too much. I'm so happy there's a cheaper alternative to the Cover FX custom drops now ;)

    2. It does come in very handy! The Body Shop drops sound really great don't they. They definitely sound like the better option but I only use such a miniscule amount of the white foundation that I find it doesn't make a huge difference to the consistency or finish to my normal foundation.

  2. This is such a good idea! I have a lot of foundations that I purchased in the summer and really need to tone down their shade. Thanks for sharing this hun! The match you made with the white foundation in your swatch is almost invisible it's so well matched! xo

    1. It's literally the bane of my life, I seem to have so many foundations that are no longer the right shade so this little trick has really helped me out! Thank you so much Jessie!

  3. That is such a great way of using it! I'd never heard about it till now, but I have so many foundations that are too dark because I do love to tan, so when I get colour matched it's always a little too dark. Thanks for sharing! x

    1. It can be so annoying having to get lots of different foundations for summer/winter/fake tanned complexions so being able to lighten my foundation to suit has been so helpful! You're welcome :)

  4. I am not really sure about using a white foundation, however it sounds interesting. I guess these kind of products change the consistency of foundations so I am afraid they wouldn't give the same coverage.

    1. The Body Shop drops are probably the best option however I only mix in such a tiny amount of the white foundation that it doesn't really change the consistency too much at all.

  5. This is exactly what I've been looking for! My skin is so fair that it's rare I find a foundation that isn't too either dark or orange for me. Will definitely be adding this to my wish list! Thanks for sharing :)

    1. You're welcome! Glad you've found it helpful :) It's such a pain trying to find the perfect shade so sometimes a bit of DIY is the best idea!

    1. It puts an end to wasting wrong colour foundations, which used to be the bane of my life!
