Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is one of the most sought after setting sprays. I should know- it took me ages to get hold of it as everywhere seemed to be constantly out of stock. It felt like a long while but eventually a very welcome email landed in my inbox from Feel Unique notifying me that it was back in stock and I was straight on their website submitting my order faster than you can say go! In the meantime, Makeup Revolution also have their own Setting Spray which I've been using for those not-so-special occasions, i.e at work. With one costing £5 and the other over four times the price at £21 (although UD does have 18ml extra) how do they compare?
Until both of these purchases I hadn't used a setting spray before so I was a bit of a novice. Not that there is much skill required to use them but I wasn't sure what to expect. I starting using the MUR setting spray about three weeks before I finally managed to get my hands on the UD version so initially I had nothing to compare to. As the directions advise, I shook the bottle and sprayed an arms length from my face after completing my makeup. It did make my face quite wet at first but it dried within a few seconds and didn't move any product around so it wasn't a massive issue. It does also have quite a strong alcohol scent, but again this fades very quickly and it's nothing too overpowering. In terms of being fit for purpose, it kept my makeup looking pretty shipshape until I arrived home from work, so all in all it's not bad.
Then Urban Decay arrives. A chance to compare the two and see whether UD really does provide value for money. The first difference was immediately obvious as rather than the large water droplets that you get with MUR, UD has an extremely fine mist meaning that after application the face still feels dry. Despite it not being a huge issue that MUR does make the face wet, it's definitely a nicer feeling not to have a wet face. There's also no alcoholic smell which again is a bonus, but where this really wins all the points is its ability to ensure that my makeup lasts perfectly throughout the day. It works wonders at preventing my makeup from starting to melt off and look patchy. In comparison, MUR does keep my makeup in place; much better than when I don't have any setting spray on at all, but it just doesn't keep it looking as fresh as it does when I use my UD.
In short, Makeup Revolution's Setting Spray does what the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray can do, but UD just does it that much better and for that reason it's so totally worth the extra money. I'll still be using MUR every now and then but when I really want my makeup to stay firmly in place I'll be reaching for UD every time!
What are your thoughts on either setting spray?

What a great and helpful review! Thank you, I found it very informative, as I was thinking if it's worth investing in UD sprays. I might give it a go! xx

Thank you! Yes it's definitely worth investing in the UD Spray, I really recommend it!
DeleteI've only tried the UD one, so when I read this post I was hoping you'd found a dupe but maybe it's better sticking with UD haha! Somehow my bottle has lasted me over a year, even though I use it for nearly every night out or if I know I'll be out the house for a really long day - so it's defintiely worth the splurge. The only bad thing I've found though is that my spray pump has gone a little funny now, so the application is more like droplets than a mist :( x

Oops sorry for the disappointment! For the price, MUR isn't bad but out of the two UD is definitely best and worth paying extra for. That's really good to know that it's lasted you such a long time, hopefully mine will too!
DeleteYour photos are so lovely - they look so professional. I've tried the Makeup Revolution spray and it was quite good but I never wear it if I'm honest. I'd quite like to try the UD one though as I've heard amazing things. Maybe I'll ask for it on my Christmas wishlist : ) xx
ReplyDeleteJessie | allthingsbeautiful-x
Ah thank you so much! The MUR spray is quite good considering it's only £5 but in comparison to UD it's worth paying more! Defintiely think you should add it your Christmas list :)
DeleteYep, Urban Decay is pretty much the king of setting sprays!
ReplyDeleteMakeup Monster
Most definitely!
DeleteReally helpful post - I think I'll just stick to buying the UD offering it sounds like its worth the money!

Oo thank you! This comparison has clearly shown me that UD is so worth it!
DeleteI love the Urban Decay Setting Spray for ages until I had the Clarins Fix Make-Up. It is superb in setting up make-ups. Xx

DeleteThanks for comparing these, it's so good knowing when to save and when its worth that little bit extra!

Your welcome :) I agree, it's always helpful to know!
DeleteI have the Chill setting spray from Urban Decay and think its wonderful. It really helps to keep my makeup locked in place all day, even after a long night shift at work. I just bought a NYX setting spray and am currently trialling it as a replacement for my UD one which is soon to run out. So far so good! x
ReplyDeleteMegan | http://www.meganjean.co.uk
I'm always hearing how great all of the UD's setting sprays are, they've done so well with them! Oo I'll have to try the NYX one out, it's nice to have a cheaper alterative!
DeleteThe only setting spray I've ever tried is actually the UD one which I love. I always buy the travel size because it tends to last me quite a while and it's under a tenner x
ReplyDeleteBeauty with charm
The UD is so good there's actually no need to try any others! That's a really good idea, I love that it lasts for so long!
DeleteNever really thought too much about buying a setting spray, but now I think I'll be purchasing one! x
ReplyDeletewww.shayholly.co.uk
It's one of those products that's not a huge necessity but once you try it you'll never be without!
DeleteI've got the UD spray and agree it's an absolute lifesaver - I couldn't be without it! Love your blog, new follower here! x

It's amazing isn't it! It makes such a huge difference!
DeleteI just tried a spf makeup setting spray from Coola and it was great!
ReplyDeletewww.ilgemini.com
Oo I've not heard of that one! That'll come in really handy when I'm in the sun, thanks for the recommendation!
DeleteThe UD spray sounds really good, especially because I'm not a fan of the 'wet' face feeling. I haven't really dabbled in setting sprays before but they seem to be all the rage lately. I feel like they'd be really good in summer?
ReplyDeletewww.thesundaymode.blogspot.com.au
Now I've tried a setting spray I can tell I'll be using them for a long time. They make such a difference! I haven't used them in the summer yet but I can imagine they'll be so handy to have!
DeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteVery informative and helpful review! Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Thank you :)

ReplyDeleteHope you had wonderful Friday ~ Love from Slovakia ~

Interesting. I've never tried any kind of setting spray so that could be a new road to go on for me. The Urban Decay version sounds especially promising. Have a happy weekend!! :]

Out of the two, and if you don't mind spending a little more then I definitely recommend the UD!
DeleteI have tried both the MUR one and the oil-free version of the UD and have to agree the high-end version does just edge it for me as well! xx
ReplyDeleteJasmine Talks Beauty
For the price MUR is pretty good but UD is the clear winner and so worth the extra money!
DeleteI've been using the Urban Decay setting spray for around a year now and I haven't looked back! I absolutely love it, it's definitely worth the money especially if you have skin like mine where make up transfers and moves around a lot!
ReplyDeleteLauren Ashleigh xx
I can imagine I'll be using UD for a long time too! I can't believes it's taken me so long to try it!
Deletei have the UD oil control one right now but i'm definitely going to try the all nighter next!
ReplyDeletedanielle | avec danielle
I've heard good things about the oil control too! UD setting sprays definitely seem to be one of the best!
DeleteI have the UD one but really only use it for special occasions / nights out. At first I was a baton the fence about it but i recently used it when i went to a friends wedding which was an all day and in the night event and honestly my makeup stayed in put - amazing xx
ReplyDeletefranklyflawless.com
I save this for special occasions too as it's not the cheapest to have to be continually replacing! A wedding seems like the perfect occasion to use it, glad it kept your makeup in place!
Deletelove the ud setting spray :) one of the best
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteI'm not a fan of the UD one at all. My favourite is the L'Oreal Infallible setting spray, it's amazing!!!
