Makeup Setting Sprays | Save vs. Splurge

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is one of the most sought after setting sprays. I should know- it took me ages to get hold of it as everywhere seemed to be constantly out of stock. It felt like a long while but eventually a very welcome email landed in my inbox from Feel Unique notifying me that it was back in stock and I was straight on their website submitting my order faster than you can say go! In the meantime, Makeup Revolution also have their own Setting Spray which I've been using for those not-so-special occasions, i.e at work. With one costing £5 and the other over four times the price at £21 (although UD does have 18ml extra) how do they compare?

Until both of these purchases I hadn't used a setting spray before so I was a bit of a novice. Not that there is much skill required to use them but I wasn't sure what to expect. I starting using the MUR setting spray about three weeks before I finally managed to get my hands on the UD version so initially I had nothing to compare to. As the directions advise, I shook the bottle and sprayed an arms length from my face after completing my makeup. It did make my face quite wet at first but it dried within a few seconds and didn't move any product around so it wasn't a massive issue. It does also have quite a strong alcohol scent, but again  this fades very quickly and it's nothing too overpowering. In terms of being fit for purpose, it kept my makeup looking pretty shipshape until I arrived home from work, so all in all it's not bad.

Then Urban Decay arrives. A chance to compare the two and see whether UD really does provide value for money. The first difference was immediately obvious as rather than the large water droplets that you get with MUR, UD has an extremely fine mist meaning that after application the face still feels dry. Despite it not being a huge issue that MUR does make the face wet, it's definitely a nicer feeling not to have a wet face. There's also no alcoholic smell which again is a bonus, but where this really wins all the points is its ability to ensure that my makeup lasts perfectly throughout the day. It works wonders at preventing my makeup from starting to melt off and look patchy. In comparison, MUR does keep my makeup in place; much better than when I don't have any setting spray on at all, but it just doesn't keep it looking as fresh as it does when I use my UD.

In short, Makeup Revolution's Setting Spray does what the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray can do, but UD just does it that much better and for that reason it's so totally worth the extra money. I'll still be using MUR every now and then but when I really want my makeup to stay firmly in place I'll be reaching for UD every time!

What are your thoughts on either setting spray?

love Katya x
