Minimalistic Make-Up

Even though you have a passion for make-up, do you ever get those days where you just want to strip it all back and go for the minimalistic look? At work I'm sitting in an office all day and I don't deal face-to-face with any customers so I've taken it as a chance to let my skin breath and have been wearing only the very basics.  I started doing this at the start of the summer where I would normally opt for more of a sheer coverage anyway, however we're now into December and it's made such a huge difference to my skin that whilst I'm at work I've continued to wear only minimal makeup.

When I walk into the office each day I want to make some sort of effort rather than looking like I've just  rolled out of bed, so there are a few products that I turn to brighten up my skin and look more awake. Although moisturiser isn't considered as 'makeup' as such, I always start any makeup routine with moisturiser to hydrate the skin and keep it looking radiant. Concealer is the one product I could never go without and I use it underneath the eyes and over the top of any blemishes, patting  into the skin for a natural finish. Then I like to add some warmth to the face with a light dusting of bronzer across the T-Zone. I don't like to go too heavy with this as I'm just wanting to look slightly sun-kissed rather than using it to contour.

Although not a necessity, I still like to define my brows as they frame the face, particularly if I'm wearing my glasses. My brows are quite fair and sparse so I'm literally just bringing them back into existence.  Then I move onto the eyes. I don't want anything too drastic but I just want to make them look bigger by opening them  up with a coating of mascara on the top lashes, followed by a thin line of gel liner.

For my cheeks I'll add a pop of colour with a pale pink powdered blush to add a healthy glow and prevent my skin from looking flat. Finally to finish off I apply a very light dusting of powder to hide any shine and keep everything in place.

My new routine is a huge time saver in the mornings and I quite like the natural look, but best of all my skin is SO much better. It's given it a chance to breath  which ultimately has meant that blemishes have been significantly reduced. I still wear foundation to any social events, but it's really made me re-think before I automatically reach for it. Does every outing really require a full on cover up?

What's your favourite make-up to use for a minimalistic look?

  1. I use as little as possible to make myself look awake :) I need to make sure my brows look good so except that mascara, concealer and a lipstick are the products I use for minimal makeup.

  2. I love this post, your routine sounds great! I love a natural makeup look because I can try and kid people I'm not wearing any xD I'd love to experiment with liner more and achieve more of a dramatic look but I'm scared of it smudging! xx

    1. Thank you! I do love the natural look but it still can't beat a full face of makeup! Ah just ensure you opt for smudgeproof products and it should be fine!

  6. I'm like you in doing my minimalistic makeup, minus the mascara. Because I just don't like the feeling of wearing mascara :/ Still haven't found a holy grail.

    1. Mascara can be a pain if you forget and rub your eyes! Often it's a lot of trial and error before you find your holy grail, hopefully you will soon!
