Primer is a bit of a new addition to my make-up bag but ever since I started using it I wouldn't be able to go back. I've been trying out lots of different primers to find the best ones suited to me and the two that I'm currently loving are simple drugstore purchases that can easily be picked up in Boots or Superdrug.
Nivea Daily Essentials Hydration Primer
Revlon Photoready Face Perfecting Primer
This is a primer with a bit of a difference as it's a moisturiser and primer combined. This is extra convenient for those early mornings before work as it allows you to skip a step. It's gel like consistency is very lightweight so I don't feel as though I'm clogging up my pores and it works to hydrate the skin at the same time, leaving it looking radiant. As it's quite a light primer I tend to use this during the weekdays when I don't wear so much make up and am opting for just light coverage.
This is my weekend primer for when I want full coverage. In comparison to the Nivea primer it's a lot thicker and creamier but it manages to provide a lovely velvety soft layer as a perfect base before applying foundation. Once dry, it mattifys the skin to banish any oil and blurs out the pores to make them appear less visible. I find this helps my make-up last really well throughout the day and does all it can to make my skin appear as flawless as possible.
I love to to use a primer as it works as a sticking agent between the skin and the foundation to keep it in place and give long lasting performance. It also has numerous other benefits including colour correcting, pore minimising and evening out the skin. There's so many primers on the shelves that if you're a first time user it can seem a little overwhelming, but the key is to determine exactly what it is that you're trying to rectify. If you suffer from giant pores then opt for a primer that specialises in minimising the pores, or if your skins dry and you want a dewy look then go for a satin primer. My main criteria is to even out my complexion and both Nivea and Revlon work really well in achieving this for me.
Do you use a primer? What's your favourite?

I haven't tried Smashbox. I'll have to try it out!
DeleteI've only ever really tried the Porefessional primer and the tea tree one from The Body Shop, and I wasn't really that impressed with either of them so I kind of gave up with primers! That Revlon one sounds really good though, I think I'm probably going to end up giving it a try!
